The new CD-RW900SX CD Recorder/Player from TASCAM.
TASCAM has announced the debut of the CDRW900SX CD Recorder/Player, the latest version in the company’s long line of robust CD recorders/players. Featuring a new high-quality slot-loading CD drive, the CD-RW900SX offers a rich feature set that makes this unit ideal for a wide range of applications, including studio use, broadcast applications, and commercial playback in restaurants, clubs, and similar venues.
For those involved in recording studio or broadcast environments, the CD-RW900SX’s independent trim controls will be most appreciated. In addition to offering analog input gain controls for the left and right analog inputs, the CD-RW900SX also offers trim control for the digital input — enabling one to easily set the optimal recording levels from a digital source.
The new TASCAM CD-RW900SX also has a variety of track division functions designed to make recording easier. This includes Automatic Track Division, whereby a track marker can be created based on the input level — effectively adding a new track when the input falls below a specified level,
which can be defined within a range from -24 to -72dB. Further, a rec-mute function can insert silence between tracks. The unit’s Time Track Division function enables time-based track creation to be set every 1-10 minutes. This feature is ideal for conference recording or similar cases when there is no gap between segments — such as when recording music. The CD-RW900SX also offers Manual Track Division, whereby a new track can be written manually by pressing the Record key while the unit is in record mode.
The CD-RW900SX offers a comprehensive set of playback features. For playback, the unit offers autocue, auto-ready, pitch control, repeat, playback, and power-on playback capabilities. Power-on playback is particularly useful for environments such as restaurants and clubs — effectively enabling the CD-RW900SX to be cued up and automatically start playback the moment the power is enabled. It should also be noted that the CD-RW900SX offers transport control via a P/S2 keyboard (sold separately). The CD/CDRW drive in the new CD-RW900SX provides a stable platter that is designed to minimise errors while writing to the disc. Track markers can be easily embedded without a gap, which is ideal for seamless continuous live recordings. And in the rare event that the disc should become locked in the drive, there is an included emergency hole in slot so that a pin or paperclip can easily eject the disc.
Supported media includes CD, CD-R, CD-R-DA, CD-RW, CD-RW-DA for recording, and CD-DA and Data-CD for playback. Equally notable, the CD-RW900SX offers shockproof memory that prevents skipping due to vibration. The unit incorporates a RAM buffer that stores audio data in memory to ensure smooth playback, even if shock or vibration lasts for upwards of four seconds.
The TASCAM CD-RW900SX provides a wealth of input connectivity. Unbalanced analog and S/PDIF coaxial and optical connections are provided for connection flexibility. The result is the ability to accommodate a wide range of sound sources. In addition, the new CD-RW900SX provides for Fade-in/Fade-out recording ranging from 1 to 30 seconds in 1 second increments, a sync recording function that automatically starts/stops recording at a preset level spanning a range of –24dB to –72dB in 6dB increments, digital level adjustment, a key control playback function and more.
The new CD-RW900SX includes a wireless 10-key remote control. The CD-RW900SX is 2U EIA rack mountable and is RoHS certified and is expected to become available Q3, 2022.
