Minix has expanded its Neo series media hubs with the Minix Neo X8-H, an Android powered device that puts the smarts into conventional TVs and LCD monitors with web browsing, 4K2K UHD playback and streaming, internet radio, gaming, access to Skype, Netflix, the Google Play store and more. XBMC, an open-source media player that allows users to play and view most videos, music and all common digital media files from local and network storage media, comes pre-installed with full hardware decoding support, delivering the first 4K XBMC on Adroid.

The new hub features a Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A9r4 processor with improved performance and power efficiency, and built-in thermal control management that that protects the device against heat issues, so it can be left plugged in on stand-by mode when not in use. Its external antenna offers both 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz frequency ranges, and it uses embedded mutli-media controller (eMMC) memory for secure and reliable media content storage. Minix’s latest Neo M1 2.4GHz wireless airmouse is included with the Neo X8-H for a limited time and includes a built-in rechargeable lithium battery the company says will run for several weeks with average daily use.
